Advanced Commercial Musicianship is course number RIM 3450 in the Recording Industry department at MTSU. The RIM 1230 course is a pre-requisite for RIM 3450, and students are highly encouraged to develop functional keyboard skills before taking more advanced commercial musicianship coursework. RIM 3450 generally covers the second half of The Practice of Popular Music, which spans Chapters 33 through 64 (and thus Parts 5 through 8), although some topics are slightly glossed over as compared to others. Generally speaking, the course covers chromatic harmony, modal scales, chord extensions and alterations, asymmetrical meters, and rhythm through complex sixteenth-note patterns in both simple and compound meters. Listed below are the course materials from previous versions of the course taught at MTSU.
